WHO IS LETTRS?
Lettrs is a social network for letter writing that allows you to share personalized public or private stories. It started in 2013 and became popular in India and Brazil in 2014.
PROBLEM
Lettrs wanted to redesign it's current app without the perception that it was vintage, but rather an old idea made new. The age of letter writing was dieing and it was the founder's dream to bring it back to life in a modern futuristic way.
GOAL
GOAL & KEY RESULT
To empower the user to see letter writing as a modern way of expressing oneself and telling stories. To show Lettrs as something new, rather than something old.
GOOGLE PLAY BEST APPS OF 2014
Spoiler Alert! Lettrs received an award from the Google Play Store in their annual "Best Apps of 2014" release after this redesign. Needless to say, the team was ecstatic to see this.

What's Working vs. What's Not
Understanding Pain Points
The app appealed to a very old school view of letter writing. It used torn paper edges and realistic textures of the everyday world. Because the goal was to modernize the view of letter writing - we shifted drastically to a more modern UI design, removing real life qualities and keeping the aspect of personalized messaging and building a community.

The overall goal of the app was very similar to email, but with a space for open letter writing to the community. We narrowed down the main sections to the following:
